A property in Borehamwood, WD6 was upgrading from a vented hot water system to mains-pressure hot water throughout. Ralf installed a Range Tribune HE unvented cylinder in a dedicated airing cupboard, giving every tap and shower in the property consistent, powerful pressure at the same time β no cold spots, no pressure drops, and no header tank taking up space in the loft.
The unit includes an expansion vessel at the top to accommodate the pressure changes of a sealed system, a central heating circulating pump, dual immersion heater elements as a backup heat source, motorised zone valves, and electrical junction boxes for multi-zone control integration. Every component was fitted to full G3 compliance, with the safety devices a pressurised hot water system requires as standard, not an optional extra.
Unvented cylinders deliver mains-pressure hot water because the system is sealed and pressurised, rather than relying on gravity feed from a header tank. That pressurisation is exactly why the installation must by law be carried out by a qualified G3 Unvented engineer β the safety devices involved, including pressure and temperature relief valves, are what keep a sealed system safe, and they must be correctly specified and fitted.
If you are considering upgrading from a vented cylinder, or simply want mains-pressure hot water throughout your home without the compromises of a gravity-fed system, this is one of the more worthwhile upgrades available for a property's plumbing.

An unvented cylinder delivers mains-pressure hot water to every tap and shower in the property simultaneously, with no cold spots, no pressure drops, and no header tank required in the loft β unlike a vented system, which relies on gravity feed and can struggle to supply multiple outlets at once.
Yes. Unvented hot water cylinders must by law be installed by a qualified G3 Unvented engineer, due to the pressurised nature of the system and the safety devices it requires.
